I’m a lucky family portrait photographer, I get to photograph lovely families and often get asked back to photograph them again when children and everyone else for that matter have grown a little older, and when more of the family want to be included.

I’d photographed part of this family before: it was a gift from grandmother to her son and daughter-in-law to mark the birth of their second child. When we photographed the son’s family there was mum and dad, older sister and a little lady who was content to sit with her mum, dad and big sister for photographs. Fast forward a couple of years and grandmother is now bought the gift of a family portrait session for her birthday by her son. The family including granddad and grandmother, aunty, family dogs and the original family of four are rounded up brought to a North Norfolk beach on quite a cool and windy day and we set off to capture a bit more family life.

We head to the woods to avoid a bracing (read: cold) wind and soon find that the wood provides us with a much warmer and calmer area to use for a family portrait session than the planned beach. The girls amaze me, they’ve grown up, have a head for heights and soon dazzle us all with their love of balancing along fallen trees, dad and mum follow suit and everyone joins in for family photographs, fun and relaxation out of the breeze in a magical woodland. It’s great to catch up with the family, give them a great time at the beach and woods together and finally brave a cold beach for a little while before the end of the session.

I hope you like some of the photographs and if you’d like to book a portrait session get in touch, it’s great fun.

It was a really sunny morning when I headed out with this great local family to capture some natural photographs in a private garden. So much so that we had to hide a little bit from the sun. It was blazing down on a spring morning without any clouds and straight onto the lovely green grass of the private garden’s lawns both bright on everyone’s eyes and inclined to reflect lots of green grassy colour over everyone. So we hid a little, found a great rope swing, found dry leaves to throw about, found lovely shaded areas, had fun slightly out of the bright sun.

The boys wore some great t-shirts, I should’ve asked where they were from as I’m sure they’re a great idea for a family of young siblings each with their age printed clearly. Mum & Dad corralled the boys, even got in on the action. Dad did a great job of teaching his eldest son how to use the rope swing, mum chased the boys around on the lawns-not only a family portrait session but a bit of quality time for a family.

If you’d like a family portrait session get in touch, it’s great to capture a little family life naturally outdoors. I hope you like some of the photographs from this recent session I certainly love my work as a lifestyle photographer.

North Norfolk was the destination for a recent family portrait session out on a slightly wild beach and in some lovely pine woods. Meeting up with a lovely couple and their adorable children we soon set to work photographing their 4 year old daughter and 1 year old twins with mum and dad.

The children loved playing in the woods, exploring and playing with pine cones as well, as running up and down the woodland paths in the case of one older sister.

When asked, in an attempt to encourage said sister to run towards us down a woodland path, to ‘fly down the path like a bat’, we were all amused when the inimitable imagination of a 4 year old kicked in and the bat became a bat who only flew sideways. Not brilliant for the ‘family photographer’ but then it’s hard to photograph anything when you’re laughing at the antics of a bat flying sideways down a path 🙂

We soon decamped to the beach, we could see a bit of blue sky and had to make the most of it. Shoes came off, bucket and spade came out, dunes made a great place to sit and take it all in and then we had to have a little paddle and a game of run in and out of the waves. All the time two little boys played as contentedly as I’ve ever seen two 1 year olds and even sat amiably in the sand to play at picking up and throwing the sand around a little.

It was a great way to spend some time at the beach with a lovely family. I hope you like some of the photographs from the session.

Fairhaven Water Gardens is a great place to visit with an extensive garden through which you can wander admiring the many plants and beautiful scenery, boat trips out onto the broads, family activities on a regular basis and a great little shop, cafe and even a few plants for sale. It’s a unique garden that people fall in love with and although it’s a popular location there’s plenty of space in which to lose yourself when you’d like a nice countryside walk. No wonder then that people get attached to the place, kids love it and family’s buy season tickets so that they can regularly visit and explore: and it’s a natural portrait photography paradise.

One such family who are season ticket holders asked if I’d mind photographing them at Fairhaven as it’s their favourite place, a quick check with Fairhaven, a green light and we were off, exploring the woods and gardens on an early weekend in April.

I’ve photographed the family concerned before and we did an indoor studio style shoot when their youngest was a matter of months old. Indoor studio style shoots have their uses, but I’ve found that particularly for young boys and girls outdoors and a bit of adventure provides the perfect environment for children enjoying themselves and takes the stress out of the whole experience for their parents. What’s more you don’t get to look at ducks, throw leaves and examine bugs in the studio, all of which make for great photographs.

I hope you like the photographs and remember to think about Fairhaven as a place to go for a bit of an adventure, you won’t be disappointed.

Two adults, two children, two fur kids, a sunny day in North Norfolk, the beach, some bubbles, a kite missing a vital strut, sunshine and beach huts. It’s a winning combination.

I sometimes want to work for the Norfolk tourist board, we have a lot to offer, sunshine, dry weather, vast beaches and enough room for everyone to have fun.

A recent portrait session took me to North Norfolk to meet a family who travel east from their home in Cambridgeshire, to visit beautiful Norfolk beaches with their children and their lovely dogs. We did the North Norfolk thing and took in some pine woodland, some beach and then generally messed about with the bubbles and the broken kite in some sand dunes and beside the beach huts. It seems to be a great recipe for a relaxing family portrait session, everyone enjoys themselves, gets some sunshine and fresh air and most go to sleep soundly in the car on the way home.

I hope you like some of the photographs from a recent session with a very lovely family.

n.b. Bubble mixture proves remarkably efficient when combined with a good coastal breeze. Apologies to North Norfolk for the cloud of bubbles that were produced during this session this Norfolk Photographer accepts no responsibility for their existence 🙂
