Mother’s day is just next weekend on the 15th of March and well it’s time we showed our appreciation to all those devoted mums and grand mum’s who basically make the world go round.  They’re there to clean our faces, make sure our clothes are clean, give us cuddles, and unconditional love-they’re a triumph and something for the menfolk to aspire too, and definitely worth celebrating!

So this morning I had a quick scan through the photo files for recent examples of mum’s doing their thing, hugging, entertaining and generally being the best thing since sliced bread. Have a look at the photographs I’ve rounded up to show how brilliant mum’s are below.

Oh, and remember that if you’d like to give a mum in your life a present on Mother’s Day there’s nothing better than the opportunity to round up the family for a family portrait session somewhere outdoors or at home in beautiful Norfolk. Get in touch if you’d like to surprise your mum or grand mum with a photography voucher for a session this Mother’s Day.

Winterton beach is a Norfolk favourite. Only a short ride out from Norwich, the beach offers an escape to sand dunes, an endless beach and facilities with both a cafe and toilets always a great bonus when it’s cold outside and you fancy a warming hot chocolate or coffee.

I recently met a young family in the carpark at the beach and we headed off for a walk amongst the sand dunes to enjoy a slightly windy but beautifully sunny Saturday in February. After walking in the dunes and having some fun we headed down to the beach, after a little bit of jumping around on the top of the dunes, and found a favourite spot of mine where an old log makes for a great small seat to watch a bit of the world go by. It wasn’t long before the promise of cake and hot drinks beckoned and we returned to the carpark so the family could take advantage of the cafe’s fine offerings before spending some of the afternoon enjoying the beach.

The children had the chance to work off some energy, explore and have fun whilst their parents could relax safe in the knowledge that the dunes and beach at Winterton are a great place for kids and family’s to spend some free time.

Stuck for something to do at half-term with the children? Well why not get out to one of Norfolk’s wonderful beaches or woodlands for a family portrait session?

It’s relaxed, fun and makes for a great gift. Sessions last up to two hours and can take place anywhere in Norfolk and even further afield should you wish.

Get out there, get some fresh air and make some memories: family photography is just one of many great half term activities in Norfolk 🙂

In the winter the leaves fall off deciduous trees and make the prospect of portraits in a normal woodland pretty tough as there’s not a whole lot of colour to utilise as far as the photographer is concerned. However, if you’re talking forest rather than woodlands with the forest being full of pine trees that keep their lovely bluey-green needles year round then it’s a different matter entirely. Add to this lovely bracken which is the most beautiful of browns at this time of year and you’ve got a winning combination and the perfect environment coupled with lovely low winter sun for family portraits.

So it was that I met another lovely family on a sunny morning down in Thetford Forest for some fun Norfolk family photography out in the pine trees. The sun shone, we had a good chat, the kids got to run around as much as they liked and we all enjoyed some fresh air which is always good for the soul. O.k. so the Forestry Commission fleeced us for parking but that’s not such a bad thing when you have all their woodland to run around in.

If you’d like an outdoor natural portrait shoot get in touch as dates are booking up.

I hope you like some of the photographs from this recent shoot.

I’ve been meeting lots of new babies recently and wow there’s nothing like meeting a new little person and seeing them smile whilst their very proud parents look on.

On a recent shoot I revisited a couple whose wedding I’d photographed a few years back who had recently been blessed with the arrival of a baby daughter.

Baby photography at home is often a good idea particularly if baby isn’t feeling in the mood straight off the bat as was the case on this occasion. It helps to have both parents and baby in a familiar environment with everything easily to hand particularly if the baby isn’t quite feeling him or herself.

On this occasion it took quite a few feeds, a little sleep and dad and the photographer to nip out to get some lunch before baby felt truly ready for the camera and settled enough to give us a period of calm curiosity perfect for photographs. Despite lots of toys and other items being used to attract baby’s attention, today a humble packet of crisps rattled back and forth was the key to this little lady’s heart.

It was great to catch up with a lovely couple and to see them as a new family, I hope you like some of the photographs from the session.
