Capturing new additions to a family is wonderful fun. As a father myself, I know the joy and the complexities of having children and babies and also know how important it is to capture images of family life, and to produce baby photography that provides a record of a very important moment in time. My newborn baby photography is solely lifestyle based, it documents the family enjoying a new life in their midst and looks to create a visual memory of a few hours in the life of you and yours. A newborn baby is a lot of work and a lot of cuddles so I like the lifestyle documentary approach here rather than specific baby posing in a studio.
By the age of 6 months babies usually start to smile and often are in a position where they can sit up. This makes for the next perfect opportunity to photograph them and to this end I often recommend a shoot at this point. These shoots can be again natural lifestyle shoots as a home is wonderful when photographed from a baby’s point of view and a natural shoot also allows for easy inclusion of parents and siblings. Alternatively this is also the perfect age to use portable studio equipment to capture well lit studio style shots in your own home of your baby sitting up, with a favourite toy beaming at the camera.
