Brancaster Family Photography

Brancaster has a beautiful beach, a lovely pub cum hotel in the Ship Inn and lots of lovely coastline and places to visit on its doorstep. It also has some great holiday accommodation including the large house at which this lovely extended family were staying for a birthday celebration and short holiday. Quick tip: One of my favourite places to visit when I’m in the area is Thornham Deli, had to pop in on the way home from this shoot and buy a Mocha and some bits to eat, always delicious albeit often busy!

I couldn’t have been greeted more warmly when I arrived to take some family photographs at the holiday home. The family dog, as he’s the only one and easily adopted by everyone, was waiting at the front door to the property and boy he’s a beauty: both in looks and temperament. I don’t know what it is about both Labradors and Retrievers but I’ve never met one that I didn’t want to take home with me, and this chap as pictured below was adorable.

We planned to take some whole family pics in the relative warmth of the house, being January it wasn’t too bad outside and we strayed into the garden later in the shoot, but started in a large lounge room where I set up a pair of flashes so that we’d have enough light to photograph a family group. With a large group photo completed, including a rather regal pet, we progressed onto photographing smaller family groups, and importantly the three generations of sisters in the family. With the arrival of some constant sunshine we then headed outdoors into the garden. The low winter sun was proving quite hard work so we stole to some shade around the front of the house which faces toward the beach.

During the whole shoot the family exuded warmth and love with of course a little banter, and it was a really great pleasure to take the photographs I’d taken on the day away for editing during some of the colder January days in the next week after the shoot. I found the wonderful humour and smiles brightened my day during the editing process and as a person who loves his work there’s no better reward.
