Often people forget that it doesn’t have to be summertime to have fun at the beach. In fact the colours at the beach don’t fade like they do inland. The sea, the sand, the Marram grass stay the same, as do the pine trees. It’s the perfect place for photography year round.
Winter portrait shoots benefit from beautiful low sunlight which is an absolute joy to photograph people in, it’s low and makes peoples eyes shine brightly, it’s warm in colour and it’s best closer to midday than it is during summer so it’s perfectly timed for younger children who get a bit cranky later in the afternoon.
Of course the amount of wonderful coastline that Norfolk has lends itself to it being a great place for family portraits and I was glad to be able to visit one of my favourite beaches at Old Hunstanton in March to photograph some lovely children all belonging to one extended family. The aim was to provide a very lucky Grandmother with some photographs for her grandchildren for her birthday and I hope that we didn’t disappoint. A big part of heading out and about for a lifestyle portrait shoot instead of staying local to your home is that it provides children with entertainment in the form of adventure and exploration. Hopefully in these photographs you’ll be able to see some of the adventure the children had whilst their parents watched. The only downside to the afternoon was that unfortunately we had so much fun that by the time we had finished the beach cafe was closed and there was no chance of ice creams.
I hope you enjoy looking at some of the photographs and please drop me a line if you would like a winter portrait shoot.
