Family reunions and get-togethers on holiday are something I photograph a great deal as a part of my family holiday photography. My opportunity to photograph this wonderfully funny and friendly family came last October in the lovely village of Mundesley on The Norfolk coast where they were staying in a very large and beautiful seaside home.
This reunion was a little bitter sweet as the family had recently lost a dear member, and were all grieving her loss. As the idea for some family photographs had been hers the family wanted to honour this request and go ahead with the planned shoot. It was an absolute pleasure to meet everyone, to hear about their daughter, mum and wife, and to honour and cherish her memory with the family shoot.
Given the circumstances of the family photography session you probably wouldn’t expect the laughter and fun we had during the shoot, but the last photograph of this small sample from the session is put here for just that reason. To show that even in the most trying of times we all have to find a bit of laughter and relief, and I hope that having a photographer come to visit to take some photographs helped with finding a bit of both.
Matching Cancer charity t-shirts, favourite colours and some beautiful artwork were just some of the tributes to a much loved family member included in the session. We found some lovely backdrops for shots, from beach garden areas, lawns, a lounge and even a cliff top and hopefully made a memory of a family coming together to celebrate a wonderful life.
