Natural portrait photography is about capturing real expressions, authentic interactions and documenting these in photographs. I often see my natural portrait sessions as a group of photographs that tell the story of a couple of hours in the life of the family or couple I’m photographing. Natural portrait photography is most easily achieved with a young family where unnatural poses are usually the last thing a young person wants to do. Naturally captured moments are the order of the day and a walk, games, fun interactions and most of all a spirit of joy and adventure are key.
I’ve many years experience producing natural portrait photography and I’m glad to say that I often hear comments about how painless my sessions are, and how the nerves and reluctance to be photographed soon disappear when I start taking pictures. I plan my sessions based around my clients, and don’t start photographing anyone until we’ve usually had a chat and got to know each other a little. I usually suggest either outdoor sessions or those at home simply because both allow you to relax and act naturally. Outdoor sessions also allow you to combine stunning natural scenery with relaxed subjects. My sessions usually last up to two hours, plenty of time to relax, plenty of time to get lots of lovely shots, to take a relaxed walk, have some fun.
