In the winter the leaves fall off deciduous trees and make the prospect of portraits in a normal woodland pretty tough as there’s not a whole lot of colour to utilise as far as the photographer is concerned. However, if you’re talking forest rather than woodlands with the forest being full of pine trees that keep their lovely bluey-green needles year round then it’s a different matter entirely. Add to this lovely bracken which is the most beautiful of browns at this time of year and you’ve got a winning combination and the perfect environment coupled with lovely low winter sun for family portraits.
So it was that I met another lovely family on a sunny morning down in Thetford Forest for some fun Norfolk family photography out in the pine trees. The sun shone, we had a good chat, the kids got to run around as much as they liked and we all enjoyed some fresh air which is always good for the soul. O.k. so the Forestry Commission fleeced us for parking but that’s not such a bad thing when you have all their woodland to run around in.
