It was more than a little bit of an adventure heading to the beach for some family photography on what can only be described as quite an inclement day. I didn’t know at that time that I was dealing with an indomitable family, who positively enjoy a bit of time on the beach whatever the weather. On this occasion it was very windy, and as I drove to my regular stomping ground as a North Norfolk Photographer trees bounced around a little more than I’d ever witnessed before. The family were staying in local Burnham Overy Staithe, so gratefully knew all too well what the weather on the North Norfolk coast was doing on that particular day.
Imagine my slight alarm then when not only did the family want to take on the rather wet and windy beach but did so with kites in hand. Kites, on a very windy day, I was slightly incredulous, but apparently it was a tradition, and I was soon to be educated in the art of family kite flying in strong winds. In all seriousness, whatever the weather the environment of North Norfolk’s beaches can be beautiful, not only a place for the camera, but also for the soul and imagination. We trudged through mud, hopped over streams of sea water, got blown about on the beach, had sand thrown at us by the wind, flew kites and almost took off with them, lost a kite for a short while and had a great time.
I hope these photographs show an adventurous, indomitable family having fun, a little excerpt in their lives, a bit of a glow on the cheek, and certainly no cobwebs left after being on the beach- great fun!
