Winterton beach has changed significantly in the last year or two, with the loss of the cafe to coastal erosion and a continued threat to the popular carpark from the same. However, it remains a beautiful spot with lovely dunes in which to ramble and a stunning beach which delivers photogenic results in the winter and summer. It’s simply a lovely part of the Norfolk coast, home to rare seabirds, a new expansion of the grey seal colony from Horsey during the winter, and a great place to walk, swim, and enjoy the sea air.
Earlier this year when lockdown began to lift I met a lovely family who’d come to Norfolk for the weekend to enjoy seeing new places and the great outdoors of the Broads area. On this occasion it was mum who treated herself to a photoshoot for her birthday; and with another recent shoot for a dad with the same idea I’m beginning to see a trend forming. She wanted some photographs of her family together before the lifting lockdown inevitably meant that two of her sons would return to university studies.
It was a bit of a blowy day but the sun shone bright and when the sun shines on the sandy dunes and beach at Winterton the most wonderful warm light is produced that is perfect for photographs and usually leaves you reaching for your sunglasses. The blue sky and sand brought out a smile for everyone and captured a special moment of freedom at long last from lockdown.
